Food + openings

Gran Torino is doing proper Northern Italian

If you haven't been to Gran Torino lately, the menu is worth a look right now. Buffalo mozzarella, handmade pasta, pumpkin tortelli with sage butter — it's the good stuff. Good excuse for a Double Bay dinner this week.

Weekend events

Murder mystery night at the InterCon this August

The InterContinental is doing a 1920s murder mystery dinner on 15 August — three courses, live theatre, the whole bit. Good one if you've got a group and want something a bit different to the usual Saturday night out.

Property + DAs

Double-storey apartment with a proper garden in Rose Bay

A Candalepas-designed apartment just off the village has come up at 1/5 Hamilton Street. Two storeys, three bedrooms, and a big private garden — rare for a block of four. Worth a look if you've been waiting for something with actual outdoor space.

Local news + council

Council heritage-listing trees to block new homes

Woollahra Council is reportedly heritage-listing individual trees around the new Woollahra Station site, in a move that would block thousands of new homes. The Planning Minister isn't happy, calling it standing in the way of much-needed housing. This one's going to run and run.

Kids + families

Free native gardening talk at Double Bay Library Thursday

Peter Cooley from Indigigrow Nursery is doing a free talk at Double Bay Library this Thursday at 6pm — native plants, supporting wildlife, and the Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub. Good one to take the kids to if they're into that sort of thing, and you can check out the new banksia garden while you're there. Register through the Woollahra Libraries bio.

Fitness + wellness

Corporate Bushcare days at Cooper Park are a thing

If your workplace does team building days, this is a much better option than an escape room. Woollahra Council runs corporate Bushcare sessions at Cooper Park — they supply the gear, you supply the bodies. Email bushcare@woollahra.nsw.gov.au to get something in the diary.
